Search Engine Optimization and Marketing

What if I told you that there was a well-written book about Search Engine Optimization with tons of information and only about a hundred pages? If you have a 7 second attention span like I do, you are already on the edge of your seats.

Every once in a while I will find things that I like to call informational "Gold Nuggets". Search Engine Optimization and Marketing for Beginners, by Renee Kennedy and Terry Kent, is only about 100 pages long. However, unlike most books you might pick up about SEO, this one is borderline entertaining.

One of the main themes throughout the book is "Content is King". In the chapter "Writing for Search Engine Promotion,"they mention several steps to writing really great content. Going into quite a bit of detail, they give examples and specific things that you should and should not do while writing and obtaining content.

"The more pages of optimized content you have, the more traffic you will get."

My favorite chapter was on link popularity. They explain why you don't have a chance without link popularity.

"What is link popularity? Remember back in school when some kids were more popular than others? ...On the internet, you are in for the toughest popularity contest of your life, the success of your website in search engines will depend upon it."

It is explained that the popularity of your site is determined by

1)The number of websites linked to yours.
2)The popularity of the sites that are linking to yours.
3)The similarity of the content on sites that link to your site.

The book covers a wide variety of topics about SEO, from the inception of your website to the process of reevaluating and changing certain things for years after. Kennedy and Kent help you understand how to plan for and eliminate the challenges that most people face after they publish a website. Step by step they take you through the creation process, share the variables about search engine ranking methods and give you ideas on how to analyze your content to maximize the keyword density.

From a perspective of not wanting to have to read 47 books to come to a relative good understanding, I think that this is a good read for anyone starting out looking for a little information on Search Engine Optimization and Marketing.
