Here are some handy tools we can use to make sure our clients' pages are Search Engine optimized, Conversion Rate Optimized, and written in a web-friendly writing style.

The Fog Indexer

This is a method of measuring reading ease.

1. Go to
   http://bothelungfish.com/text/new/testing2.html and enter a sample passage of 100 words or more.
2. Click Submit.
3. Select all the words with three or more syllables. (Note: ignore the "exceptions" -- Capitalized words that name something, and words that become 3-syllables by adding (es) or (ed).)
4. Click Fog Me.

You have found the readability level of your page. The "ideal" Fog Index level is 7 or 8. A level above 12 indicates the writing sample is too hard for most people to read. For technology-focused sites, a 12 FI level is acceptable.

Keyword Density Tool

The keyword density tool is useful for helping webmasters/SEO's achieve their optimum keyword density for a set of key terms/keywords.

Keyword density is important since search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme, and to determine which terms this site is relevant to -- the perfect keyword density will help archive higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for 'keyword-spamming').
